Garment Wash Care Symbols and Their Definitions

To communicate wash care instructions to the wearer a set of care symbols are used in wash care labels. It is very important to follow care instructions properly during washing/dry cleaning to prevent damages in washing and ironing.

There are 5 primary symbols commonly found in care labels such as washing, bleaching, tumble drying, ironing and dry clean. Under each category, there are variations like different wash instructions.

Wash care Symbols

Symbols and their meaning are explained in the following chart. 
When signs are marked with X (crossed) that means “Do Not” perform that process. 
Bleach sign with cross mark means do not bleach the clothing item.
